Board Service and Committees - Airdrie Meals on Wheels - Volunteer Coordinator

TITLE: VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR (Director of the Board)


Objectives: To ensure an adequate roster of screened and trained volunteers to deliver the services of AMOW

Responsibilities:

• Head Volunteer Coordinator Committee

• Attend board meetings
• Recruit new volunteers by thorough screening to verify eligibility:
o Provide relevant information to the applicant
o Meet and interview the applicant
o Ensure a police security check for the vulnerable sector is obtained
o Ensure all required documents are completed and signed (application, oath of
confidentiality, driver’s license #, volunteer agreement, acknowledgement of
risk)
o Complete the Volunteer Interview Summary and contact references
• Provide 2 orientation deliveries for meal delivery drivers, and 1 for board members
• Maintain a complete file in a secure location for each volunteer
• Prepare monthly delivery schedule for volunteer drivers
• Arrange replacement drivers when cancellations occur
• Provide information to volunteers as required
• Deal with volunteer queries and complaints
• Evaluate volunteer performance
• Organize an annual May Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
• Organize an annual Volunteer Holiday Social
• Carry out other duties as outlined in the AMOW policies

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of society bylaws, mission & objectives

• Strong record keeping skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to delegate
• Ability to deal with volunteer’s queries and/or complaints

Lines of communication:

• Report to President and other board members

• Directly communicate with volunteer drivers by phone or email

Time commitment: Average of 20 hours per month
