Airdrie and District Hospice Society
In 2010 a group of dedicated citizens got together to formulate discussions and focus
groups on Hospice Care in Airdrie and District. (ADHS) Airdrie & District Hospice
Society was established as a charitable society in May of 2011 when it became
apparent that there was a dire need in Airdrie & District to support those going through
end of life in our community.
As a member of the Airdrie and District Hospice Society, you will have an opportunity to
engage with community and volunteers who support the services we provide. The role
of the Board of Directors is to further the Mission and Vision of ADHS by establishing
organizational direction and work in collaboration with community partners.
o Exemplifying Airdrie & District Hospice Societies values in support of the mission,
programs and performance
o Ensuring the financial viability and sustainability of the organization’s operations
o Providing strategic and generative leadership to ADHS
o Acting as an ambassador, advocate, and asker for the organization and
promoting Airdrie & District Hospice Societies work in the community
o Contributing to fulfilling the work plans of one of the Board committees:
Governance Committee, Finance Committee, Special Events, Hike for Hospice,
Tree of Hope and Education Committee.
To carry out these responsibilities, both the Board as a whole and individuals working
committees meet on a monthly basis. Preparation for Board and committee meetings is
required and should be factored into the overall time commitment expected from Board
members. In addition to attendance of meetings, you will be expected to work on Board
initiatives and participate in The Airdrie and District Society and Board functions. This
leads to an approximate commitment of up to 15 hours per month.
We are currently recruiting one new board member who brings skills and experience
that will provide value, diversity and enthusiasm to our Board. Preference will be given
to individuals with the following experience in one or more of these areas:
1. Governance Committee
2. Finance and Fund Development Committee
3. Clinic Educator with a passion for End of Life
4. Special Events Planning
o Previous Board and voluntary committee experience in the Not for Profit Sector
o Competence in any of several key areas: strategic planning, organizational
management & leadership, fund development, people development & coaching,
PR & communications and policy development & management.
Joining the Airdrie and District Societies Board will provide you with an opportunity to
share your skills while gaining insight into key community issues relating to End of life
and Palliative Care.
