Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta - Bayview Project Construction Crew Leader
Purpose: Construction Crew Leaders are a group of specialized, skilled volunteers who are responsible for training, mentoring, and supervising small groups of volunteers on Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta (Habitat) build sites during various phases of construction. The Crew Leader is responsible for providing on the job training and supervising other Construction Volunteers which may include future homeowners, corporate/group volunteers, and/or individual volunteers. This position reports to: Habitat site supervisor(s)
Time Commitment:
Regular commitment (at least 3 shifts/month)
Minimum 1 year commitment Job Duration:
For the duration of the build project (at least a 1-year commitment) Location: Various build site locations in the affiliate service area (currently building in Livingston, NE Calgary)
Position Duties:
Works with the site supervisor on the scope of work for that day.
Provides on the job training and supervision of 1 – 3 other construction volunteers.
Assists with hands on residential construction work.
Responsible for the correct and safe use of tools and materials within your crew.
Always ensure a fun and safe environment on site.
Maintain high quality of builds.
Qualifications and Skills:
Understanding of the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and the desire to promote it.
Tool and residential construction experience, this could range from carried out in your own home renovations or professional construction experience.
Excellent people skills.
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with Habitat staff members and volunteers alike.
Understanding of cultural differences and ability to work with language barriers.
Ability to oversee and work with a team of volunteers.
Ability to work in a group setting with a positive temperament.
Ability to demonstrate patience.
An understanding of the construction process/sequence.
The willingness to learn and teach.
Ability to lift a min. of 25 lbs.
Orientation and Training: Habitat Volunteer Orientation, additional safety training, valid Standard First Aid certification is highly encouraged.
Working Conditions: Various build site locations, working indoors and outdoors depending on build stage and tasks.
Screening Process:
Volunteer application through Hands on Connect.
Orientation Session.
Interview with the Manager, Volunteer and Community Engagement.

Qualifications Required
- Age Requirement Must be at least 18+ Required
- Carpentry & Construction Skills Must be at least Experienced Carpentry
- Criminal Record Clearance by RCMP Must be I will complete a Criminal Record Check, if necessary.
- First Aid Must be I have a valid First Aid Certificate
