Parade - 2025 Parade Marshal Volunteer
Overview: Parade Marshals play a key role in ensuring the parade runs smoothly and on time. Stationed along the parade route, volunteers will be in the middle of the action, directing contingents using signage to indicate when to speed up, slow down, or stop. This high-energy role is ideal for those who are comfortable engaging with large crowds and managing the flow of the parade. Parade Marshals may also be asked to support Safety Volunteers as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure parade contingents proceed along the route on schedule.
- Hold and display signage to direct participants to speed up, slow down, or stop.
- Assist with crowd control and keep the parade moving efficiently.
- Support Safety Volunteers when necessary.
- Stand for extended periods in an outdoor environment, actively engaging with parade participants.
Location: Check-in at the Parade Volunteer Check-in in Hillcrest (exact location to be announced).
Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18+
- General understanding and passion for LGBTQ+ gender and sexual orientation diversity issues.
- Understanding of San Diego Pride’s mission and vision.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate instructions effectively.
- Comfortable working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to operate outdoors in intense heat, sun, and crowded spaces.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Accessibility Options:
- Option to take breaks as needed.
- May encounter various sounds, smells, and large crowds.
- Requires standing and/or moving around for extended periods

Training or Support:
- General volunteer info sessions will be available before the Parade.
- Brief on-site training will be provided at the start of the shift.
- Parade team members will be available for support throughout the shift.
