Front Desk Volunteer

REPORTS TO:

Director of Youth, Family & Adult Programs

SCHEDULE:

Saturday and Sunday; 4 hour shifts

COMMITMENT:

Volunteers are asked to commit to 12 months

LOCATION:

Sacramento LGBT Community Center – Lavender Heights. 1015 20th St.

 

SUMMARY: The Front Desk Volunteer is a receptionist, host, and information hub. The first person visitors to the Center encounter, this volunteer is an outstanding representative of the Center, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a friendly, positive atmosphere at all times.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Monitor the front door, welcoming everybody and keeping a record of all clients and visitors.
  2. Monitor the Center’s parking lot for unauthorized vehicles, issue guest parking passes, collect payments when necessary. Alert owners of vehicles in tandem spots when they need to let the other vehicle out.
  3. Inspect Center grounds and building to ensure facility cleanliness and maintain safety for all clients, visitors, and staff. Report any items that need attention appropriately.
  4. Become familiar with programs and services at the Center to provide and deliver information to clients and community members in person, via e-mail, or phone.
  5. Answer the phone and direct calls appropriately.
  6. Receive deliveries

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Organized, detail and customer oriented.
  2. Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  3. Knowledge of de-escalation techniques is ideal, but not required.
  4. Some event planning knowledge or experience is ideal, but not required.
  5. Knowledge of general maintenance methods, operating requirements, and safety precautions related to facilities management is ideal, but not required.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization. Respect for everyone’s real or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity/gender expression including pronouns.  
  2. Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity required.    
  3. Age Restrictions: Must be 18 years of age or older.  
  4. Volunteers in this position will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, and to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Fluency in speaking, reading, writing and listening to English is required.
  5. Previous experience in customer service is a plus.
  6. Persons in this position may be seated or standing and may sometimes be asked to accompany a lost individual to their destination. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  
  7. Vaccination Requirement: We fully support COVID-19 vaccinations and are requiring employees and volunteers to have either proof of full vaccination including a booster, or if not eligible for the booster or unvaccinated, a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours. Documentation will be required prior to the event.   
  8. The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is a drug-free workplace and is committed to providing a safe, efficient, and productive work environment. Volunteers who report for service under the influence are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
