SUMMARY: STI/HIV Testing Support Volunteers provide client-centered and data capturing support to the Sexual Health Team during operations of Rapid HIV and STI Testing. Volunteers can expect to engage with Center clients to assist with completing and/or verifying required paperwork, ushering clients to the tester, distributing free condom packs, or encouraging and helping clients to complete a Health Needs Assessment currently being conducted.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Volunteers can expect to be asked to do any of the following):
- Ensure all client testing paperwork is accurately completed, and provide assistance as needed. Maintain a supply of ready blank packets for new clients.
- Coordinate all clinic traffic-flow to eliminate bottlenecks and reduce wait times and usher clients to testers when it’s their turn.
- Act as liaison between community members and the Sexual Health Team, answering any clinic-related questions, as needed.
- Distribute and and/or assemble condom packs.
- Assist the Sexual Health Team with getting clients to successfully complete the “Community Care Check-in Survey”.
- Accurate entry of data into multiple reporting platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with crowd control and interacting with the general public
- Ability to work independently with little instruction as well as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate efficiently in fast paced situations
- Ability to adapt in fast paced situations with shifting priorities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
- Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people.
- Understanding of the historical context that created the need for Pride events for the LGBTQ+ community.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
