SUMMARY:
The Lotus Rootz Night Market is a family-friendly night market that celebrates queer Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) History Month.
The roles of the STYN Lotus Rootz Volunteers are vital to the success of the Lotus Rootz Night Market (a family-friendly Night Market that celebrates queer Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) history month) to be well-received by community members coming in and stopping by this event. Our STYN Lotus Rootz Volunteers will be responsible for helping with setting up the event, helping folks check in, monitoring rooms, guiding guests to workshops, cleaning up the event, and other duties as assigned within the scheduled shift time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Set up for the event.
- Chaperone event (i.e., check-in on vendors, greet guests, guide guests to workshops, & redirect guests towards entrance or exit).
- Chaperone assigned room (i.e., Workshop space)
- Check-in event guest.
- Clean-up and break down event.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people.
- Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive, and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
- Respect for everyone’s real or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, including pronouns.
- Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; fluency to read, write, speak, and hear English.
- Business Casual attire and closed-toed shoes required.
- Physical Demands: Volunteers in this role will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, and to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech, lift up to 50lbs, use computers and office equipment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Drug and Alcohol-Free Policy: The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is committed to maintaining a safe, productive, and welcoming environment. Volunteers are expected to perform their duties free from the influence of drugs or alcohol. Individuals found under the influence while volunteering will face disciplinary action, up to and including permanent removal from the volunteer program.
