SUMMARY:
“Ally Office Hours" is a drop-in, virtual, and judgment-free space for folks to learn how to best support the queer people in their lives. Ally Office Hours Volunteers engage people who identify as allies to the LGBTQ+ community and provide them with the tools they need to be the best advocates possible. Volunteers use their lived experiences to provide a wide variety of perspectives, advice, and support. Individuals in this role provide culturally fluent and trauma-informed support and feedback to adults in a virtual drop-in space 1-2 times per month.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitate one-on-one empathetic discussions with allied adults respectfully and using a framework of cultural fluency and the trauma-informed model.
- Volunteers share concrete examples from their lived experience to help the Allies expand their understanding of the queer experience, then apply proven methods to advocate for and support the LGBTQ+ community in everyday situations.
- Regularly connect with Tri-Counties staff to provide updates and receive guidance and feedback.
- Volunteers use their own internet-connected device (computer or tablet) to manage virtual meetings over Zoom.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proven track record of reliability and punctuality.
- Excellent communication skills and adaptability, when necessary.
- Ability to evaluate and prioritize competing obligations.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; fluency to read, write, speak, and hear English. Bilingual in a threshold language is highly desirable.
- Business Casual attire and closed-toed shoes required.
- Physical Demands: Volunteers in this role will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, and to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech, lift up to 50lbs, use computers and office equipment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Volunteers are expected to perform their duties free from the influence of drugs or alcohol. Individuals found under the influence while volunteering will face disciplinary action, up to and including permanent removal from the volunteer program.
