SUMMARY:  

Q-Spot is the Sacramento LGBT Community Center's Youth Respite program, which focuses on providing youth with their essential needs while also supporting their mental health with community building and resource navigation. Q-Spot volunteers support the program’s essential functions and engage the youth, building rapport.

*Volunteers in youth programs must successfully pass a background check*

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist clients by providing food, survival supplies, and other items Q-Spot offers.
  2. Track resources provided to clients for grant reporting purposes.
  3. Engage with youth, such as having conversations with them or playing card games.
  4. Report concerns of neglect or abuse to center staff.
  5. Assist in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the Q-Spot.
  6. Build positive relationships with Youth Clients.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Volunteers in this position are required to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  2. Experience engaging with youth preferred, but not required.
  3. Bilingual in a threshold language is highly desirable, but not required.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people.
  2. Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
  3. Respect for everyone’s real or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender-identity and gender-expression, including pronouns.  
  4. Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity. 
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
  6. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; fluency to read, write, speak, and hear English.
  7. Volunteers in this position will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, and to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  
  8. Volunteers in this position may be required to sit or stand for extended periods, move objects up to 50 pounds, maneuver tight spaces, operate office equipment, open and close filing cabinets and boxes, observe visitors, and communicate messages by telephone. The person in this position will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech, to read written emails and chats, and to type accurate notes during meetings, to engage in gross and fine manual manipulation, which may include seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand(s) and touching, picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  9. Vaccination Requirement: We fully support COVID-19 vaccinations and are requiring employees and volunteers to have proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. Documentation will be required prior to the event.  
  10. The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is a drug-free workplace and is committed to providing a safe, efficient, and productive work environment. Volunteers who report for service under the influence are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
