SUMMARY:  The “You Betta Work!” Career Fair connects LGBTQ+ job seekers with employers dedicated to diversity through inclusive hiring practices. Volunteers support setup before the event, registration/check-in and hospitality during the event, and breakdown after the event.

 

This You Betta Work! Career Fair is being held off-site while the Sacramento LGBT Community Center is undergoing a renovation. The location is in Midtown Sacramento at the Weave/True, located at 1900 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95811 (the corner of K Street & 19th Street)

 

DUTIES:

  1. Set-up support:
    • Checking the actual placement of tables and chairs against a layout map and adjusting, as needed.
    • Labeling the tables to help employers find their assigned space upon arrival.
  2. Support checking in participating employers.
    • Some volunteers will use a computer to check in employers as they arrive.
    • Some volunteers will help employers find their table and liaise to resolve issues, as needed.
  3. Support checking in and registering job seekers.
    • Volunteers will use a computer to check in job seekers who pre-registered or guide job seekers who have not pre-registered through the registration process (training is provided on the day of the event).
  4. Hospitality during the event:
    • Door Monitors to guide arriving participants to the correct check-in or registration area and redirect non-participating persons from entering.
    • Provide directions to restrooms and workshop locations within the building.
    • Answer questions about the support and services provided at the fair.
    • Provide individual support to attendees who have visual or mobility needs.
  5. Support workshops and workshop presenters.
  6. Support restoring the space after the event has ended.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  1. Understanding of basic customer service standards.
  1. Ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
  2. Comfort learning to perform basic tasks in a computer application, which may be their first time using said application.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people.
  2. Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive, and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
  3. Respect for everyone’s real or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, including pronouns.  
  4. Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity. 
  5. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and hearing English.
  6. Business Casual attire and closed-toed shoes required.
  7. Physical Demands: This position will be exclusively indoors. Persons in this position will be required to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately and to hear, understand, and distinguish in-person speech. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
