SUMMARY:  As we confront significant funding challenges caused by the Trump Administration’s regressive policies toward LGBTQ+ and DEI initiatives, our Community Canvassing volunteers play a vital role in sustaining our mission.

By distributing door hangers throughout neighborhoods in the greater Sacramento area, volunteers help raise awareness, inspire donations, and share a powerful message of hope, inclusion, and resilience.

This is a fun, rewarding way to make a real difference—amplifying the Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s voice while connecting with potential new supporters in your community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Collect door hangers and area assignments at a designated location.
2. Distribute door hangers in assigned neighborhoods.
3. Walk safely and responsibly within residential areas.
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Comfortable walking for extended periods.
2. Ability to navigate neighborhoods efficiently.
3. Friendly and positive attitude.
     
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people.
2. Passion for The Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ+ people thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization.
3. Respect for everyone’s real or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, including pronouns.  
4. Commitment to anti-racism and racial equity.  
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.
6. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; fluency to read, write, speak, and hear English.
7. Business Casual attire and closed-toed shoes are required.
8. Physical Demands: This position will be exclusively outdoors and require volunteers to walk.
9. Vaccination Requirement: We fully support COVID-19 vaccinations and are requiring employees and volunteers to have proof of full vaccination. Documentation will be required before volunteering.  
10. The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is a drug-free workplace and is committed to providing a safe, efficient, and productive work environment. Volunteers who report for service under the influence are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
