One City Marathon Volunteer Opportunities

Celebrating its 10th year, the Newport News One City Marathon is a fun way to connect the community and inspire a healthy lifestyle.  With the One City Marathon beginning in the woods of Newport News Park and ending at the Yard District to showcase the beautiful James River, it provides an opportunity for the entire community to come out and take part in this exciting event.  Visitors will enjoy the natural beauty, friendly neighborhoods, cultural amenities, and thriving businesses the city has to offer.  Enthusiastic volunteers will certainly help create an experience that runners and fans will never forget.  Whether you are a runner, event volunteer, or fan, thank you for connecting with the City of Newport News as we celebrate all that is good in our city!

1.-Traffic Wardens, March 3, 2024

Traffic Wardens are vital on race day to maintain the safety of participants by keeping the race route clear of vehicular traffic and directing any vehicular traffic that is encountered to designated routes.  Wardens will be placed at locations to ensure vehicles stay clear of the runners and course.  You can also cheer runners on since you will be in the middle of the action.  This can be a very powerful experience as you encourage runners and have fun with this volunteer opportunity!

Traffic Wardens will meet at a location.  At that location, you will be loaded onto a bus and dropped off at your designated post.  After the last runner passes, you and the traffic barriers have been moved, you will be picked up and returned to your car.  Wear comfortable shoes and get ready for a fun and rewarding experience!
