PHP Developer

Role Tasks & Responsibilities

Working closely with other POW web team volunteers and staff to implement improvements to our digital infrastructure including a rebrand and the expansion of our POW Climate Pledge.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced PHP & WordPress Developer responsible for both back-end and front-end development who is interested in helping us keep the lights on and in learning a new JavaScript based skillset as we move to JAMstack.

You will probably have a strong understanding of industry trends and content management systems, ideally with some really solid Wordpress development (as opposed to design & configuration.) Experience with UX, accessibility, responsive and adaptive design is really helpful.

An understanding of the entire modern web development process, including design, development, and deployment is preferred but it also maybe that you're wanting to move in that direction from more traditional architectures.

You will have experience working on your own initiative and taking ownership of a project or task. A personal commitment to the mission and values of Protect Our Winters and a drive to support others to take effective action.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing new features and functionality
  • Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture
  • Ensuring high-performance and availability, and managing all technical aspects of the CMS
  • Helping formulate an effective, responsive JAMstack frontend and helping recommend a CMS and ecommerce platform.
  • Pairing with other developers to share knowledge and ensure features are delivered to a high standard.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Good understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications
  • Experience designing and developing responsive design websites
  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
  • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Appreciation of A11Y Standards and coding to them
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
  • Knowledge of how to interact with REST & GraphQL
  • Proficient understanding of GIT
  • Strong understanding of PHP7 back-end development
  • Experience of TDD/BDD would be a bonus

QA Test Lead

Role Tasks & Responsibilities

Working closely with other POW web team volunteers and staff to implement improvements to our digital infrastructure including a rebrand and the expansion of our POW Climate Pledge.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced QA Lead responsible for for ensuring the quality of our digital infrastructure as move to a new JAMstack architecture.

You will be a detail orientated, organised and bring solid practical experience of implementing QA best practices on digital delivery.

Mostly importantly you will have experience working on your own initiative, of taking ownership of a project or task as part of a team and a hunger to learn & share knowledge.

Obviously a personal commitment to the mission and values of Protect Our Winters and a drive to support others to take effective action is also really important.

Responsibilities

  • Define Testing Standards, Strategies and Plans
  • Lead the QA function and ideally help grow the team
  • Manage risks and defect triage
  • Work with the team to improve delivery processes
  • Writing and running test plans
  • Pairing with other team members to share knowledge and ensure features are delivered to a high standard.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of modern QA tools, practices and standards
  • Appreciation of A11Y Standards and how to test to them
  • Experience of security and performance testing using open source tools
  • Knowledge of how to interact with REST & GraphQL APIs

Automated Test Engineer

Frontend Engineer

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced frontend engineer. This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5 & CSS3) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the colour and font choices, and so on).

You should have a good understanding of industry trends, headless content management and ecommerce. Experience with UX, accessibility, responsive and adaptive design is essential. Also, an understanding of the entire modern web development process, including design, development, and deployment is preferred.

Mostly importantly you will have experience working on your own initiative, of taking ownership of a project or task as part of a team and a hunger to learn & share knowledge.

Volunteer Community Rep

POW UK Regional Chapter Strategy

We aim to establish organised groups of POW Advocates in regions across the UK and Europe who love the outdoors and are committed to turning their passion into purpose. These chapters will operate under the umbrella of POW UK to unite the outdoor community in their region and broaden our reach across the country by helping build awareness and advocacy at events. 

A Community Rep will be assigned to each of the first six Regional Chapters in London, Dublin, Manchester, Edinburgh, Morzine (FR) and Tignes (FR) - we are still looking for Morzine (FR) and Tignes (FR). We are likely to expand in future so watch this space if you are based elsewhere!

About Protect Our Winters UK

Protect Our Winters UK is a charity formed to inspire and equip the outdoor community to take positive action on climate change. 

We do this by engaging individuals and organisations through their outdoor livelihoods and passions. We educate them on the risks of climate change and support them to take effective action

Community Rep Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Grow POW UK’s community and increase our impact.

  • Build climate advocacy in your region, turning new Advocates into active participants of the POW movement in your community.

  • Raise awareness about POW UK’s campaigns and mission by activating at community and partner events. 

  • Engage volunteers and host monthly Regional Chapter meetings to inspire and strengthen community.

  • Set up (and manage) a private Regional Chapter Facebook Group for your community. 

  • Manage Regional Chapter e-mail. 

  • Debrief on Chapter meetings with Rep Coordinator.

  • Complete quarterly check ins with Rep Coordinator and General Manager. 

  • Manage and store the Chapter Activation Kit. 

  • Set advocacy drive goals with the General Manager Program Director in January each year. 

  • Seek opportunities to help build advocacy in your community. 

  • Ensure all new POW Advocates details are recorded.

 

Who we’re looking for

The ideal Volunteer Community Rep will be a figurehead of their community, highly engaged with POW UK and interested in the climate movement, have a passion for the mountains and outdoor sports, and be a good representative of POW UK’s values.

They will possess excellent verbal communication skills and be confident in delivering the POW message through meetings and events.

They will have experience working on their own initiative and taking ownership of a project or task.

They will have good organisational skills for holding monthly Regional Chapter meetings, liaising with partners for events and looking after POW Advocates in their region.

They will have a personal commitment to the mission and values of Protect Our Winters and a drive to support others to take effective action.

What you’ll get in return

Corporate Relationship Co-ordinator

Role Tasks & Responsibilities

We give business the chance to become part of the POW network, helping us to drive effective climate action and protect what we all love. Business pay an annual membership fee to POW and make a commitment to take action in their own business. They support POW campaigns through their own social media channels and publish a support statement on their website and other channels. In return they are able to use the logo to demonstrate their commitment to climate change action, awareness of their commitment raised through POW’s social media channels and invitation to POW events. 

We also have the POW Pledge, helping businesses take climate action through 8 easy to follow steps. We need to support Pledgers in the journey.

Role Tasks & Responsibilities

Working with the team to develop the corporates programmes and actively seek new partners, supporting them through the on-boarding process

This role will be the key point of contact for smaller partners, sending quarterly updates with POW news and updates and co-ordinating attendance at POW events

Assist sharing our 'POW Pledge' to support our partners in reducing their environmental footprint

Keep Salesforce, our CRM tracking system, up to date 

Actively source new ideas, information, grants, supports, and initiatives that may benefit our partners

Track due dates for membership renewals and ensure retention of members

Work with POW’s Social Media and Web teams to announce new POW sign-ups 

Who we’re looking for

The Corporate co-ordinator will have account or relationship management experience gained through employment or voluntary work

They will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be confident delivering the POW message

They will have experience working on their own initiative and taking ownership of a project or task

Accounts Manager

Role Tasks & Responsibilities

1. Reconciling the charity’s Triodos bank account in Xero in order to produce quarterly VAT returns and monthly updates to the Trustees on income and expenses. 

  •  In addition to BACs payments in / out we also have a charity debit card to make payments. 
  •  Staff and volunteer expenses are processed through Receipt Bank.   
  •  Currently these are all very low volumes <20/month across all channels.

 2) Set-up and manage monthly PAYE for our staff - currently one staff member, likely to be two in near future.

 3) Prepare quarterly VAT returns for the charity - we are now VAT registered and have our first submission due at the end of October.
