The Appomattox Regional Library System


Explore the opportunities to contribute to our community through volunteering! Whether you're interested in shelf management, special projects, or event roles, we can initiate the training process based on your preferences. Please review the following guidelines before applying:

  • We do not accept court-ordered community service or any other form of disciplinary community service. 
  • Applicants must be at least 14 years old to volunteer.
  • Applicants aged 18 and older are required to fill out a background authorization form.
  • A commitment of at least 3-6 months is appreciated to fully grasp your role and become productive due to the training involved
  • Teen volunteers have specific restrictions on work hours and times of the day.

Library Volunteer

Are you an organizational genius?

Use your organizational skills! Create a welcoming environment by keeping bookshelves and common areas tidy and organized. 

Essential Duties 

  • Shelving books
  • Pulling requested books 
  • Cleaning the shelves
  • Shelf reading
  • Craft prep

Bookstore Volunteer

It's more than dollars and cents!

Become a bookstore volunteer. Proceeds from the bookstore support children and adult reading programs, the purchase of equipment, materials, and resources to enhance library services beyond the library’s budget.  

Volunteers are needed Wed, Thur, Sat 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM.

Have your voice heard.

The Hopewell- Prince George Friends of the Library is a group of citizens who join together to support, improve, and promote The Appomattox Regional Library System.

  • Executive Board Meetings 4 times a year
  • Spring and Fall Membership Meetings 
  • Opportunities to head up a committee or fundraiser 

Mission Statement

The Appomattox Regional Library System will provide services and programs to the communities it serves through the support of life-long learning, general information, and the exchange of ideas with effective use of traditional library resources and emerging technology. 

The Mission of the ARLS volunteer program is for community members to contribute their unique skills and talents to enhance library services and promote the mission of the library within the community.
