SDHS - One Day Shelter Service

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us for a day!

Currently, we are only offering this opportunity on Mondays at our San Diego Campus.

How to Sign Up

1. Scroll to the bottom of this page and click on Shelter Projects activity link for the date you'd like to volunteer
   • If no dates appear, all shifts are currently full. New shifts are usually posted during the last week of each month for the following month.
2. The link will lead you to an application. After submitting your application, you’ll be able to click the sign up button for your specific shift.

Requirements

• Pre-registration is required. We are not able to accommodate drop-ins due to space and supply limitations.
• Volunteers must be 18+
• If you are interested in volunteering on a regular basis, please consider joining our ongoing team of shelter volunteers!

Details to consider:

• Volunteers will be assigned tasks dependent on the needs of the shelter on that day. Be prepared to be flexible!
  • Tasks may include prepping dog food, cleaning yards, folding laundry, etc. 
• Some tasks will take place outdoors in shade. Other tasks will take place indoors in one of our shelter buildings. Expect some exposure to doggy sounds and smells while you're working in the volunteer space!
• Most tasks will involve standing, walking, and moving around for the entire duration of your shift. Please communicate any physical accommodations you may need with your Volunteer Engagement host. 
• Animal handling such as dog walking is not included in this service day.
• If needed, we are happy to sign any proof of volunteer service forms at the end of your shift! If you do not have a specific form but would like proof of your service, we can provide an hours verification form before you leave.

After You Sign Up

Once registered, you can view your schedule under the Schedule tab of your volunteer profile. You’ll also receive reminder emails a few days before your service date.

If you’re no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift as soon as possible by logging into your account, going to the Schedule tab and clicking "Remove." This helps us offer the spot to another volunteer.
