Volunteer Opportunities for Teen Volunteers (Ages 13-17)

 

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine teen program exists to provide teens a safe and positive environment that will enhance personal and social skills, teach responsibility and leadership, and promote individual self-esteem.

General Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be between the ages of 13-17.
  • Ability to teach and lead various recreational activities with staff assistance.
  • Excellent character and possess maturity.
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of ages and skill levels.
  • The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Enjoys giving back to the community.
  • They should feel comfortable interacting with all members of the public.
  • Express sensitivity to diverse populations (culture, age, language, etc.).
  • Desire to have fun.

 

 


 

                             Year Around Volunteer Opportunities

 

Program Assistant (After School, Youth Sports, Senior Center, Teen Center)

 

Volunteer Duties: Set up and/or clean up equipment and materials for activities. Help plan games and activities for children of all ages. Assist in enforcing appropriate safety regulations. Assists in leading activities. Serve as a role model for young children by demonstrating high standards of personal conduct. Ensure participants are safe (keeping play areas free from hazards, etc.). Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the Volunteer Program. Duties and responsibilities may vary per site.

 

Age Restrictions: 13+ Years of Age (16+ Years of Age for Assistant Youth Sports Coach)

 

Hours Commitment: Early September - Mid June. Daily schedules vary from site to site and will be arranged according to program needs. 

 

Homework Tutor/Helper

 

Volunteer Duties: Utilize your knowledge, skills, or interests in Math, Reading, and Writing to help participants with their homework.

 

Age Restrictions: 13+ Years of Age

 

Hours Commitment: Early September - Mid June. Daily schedules vary from site to site and will be arranged according to program needs.
