Special Events - Homelessness Point in Time Census

The 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count night has been scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026. Indianapolis will continue to conduct site-based PIT count surveys at libraries, provider organizations, and community centers through the following week to be as thorough as possible. We need the help of volunteers!

A required federal report, the PIT Count provides an annual snapshot of Indianapolis residents experiencing homelessness. The PIT is also a critical component in securing federal and local funding that helps our community get neighbors into housing and keep them housed.

Community volunteers will receive in-person training on how to use the electronic survey tool, best practices to respectfully engage with neighbors experiencing homelessness, and an overview of historical PIT data and its use in local planning. CHIP is also engaging our friends at Overdose Lifeline to facilitate Naloxone training.

We invite community members interested in volunteering to conduct PIT Count surveys in our site-based count the week following PIT night to sign up at the link below to receive training information and shift sign-up schedules as they become available.

Each number represents a real person—a neighbor deserving of safe, stable, and affordable housing.
