Summer Learning - 2026 Summer Learning Ambassador (Ages 13-17)
Library volunteers play a pivotal role in encouraging San José youth and families to take part in the Summer Learning program to avoid falling behind when they return to school. Your main goal is to connect with library users and explain the benefits of continued education during the summer.
Volunteers are needed to:
- Promote the Summer Learning program to customers in the library
- Explain how the Summer Learning program works and register participants
- Distribute prizes based upon registration and books/hours earned
- Help patrons with Summer Learning table crafts
- Promote library activities and events
Benefits:
- Develop leadership and teamwork skill via two all team meetings in the first and last week of June: date to be determined
- Encourage lifelong learning to families and youth
- Connect with your community and provide a desired service
- Share or gain experience with customer service skills
- Develop mentoring skills
- Earn community service credit for school requirements
- Summer Learning Volunteer Training Provided
Requirements:
- Age 13-17
- Enjoy working with people of all ages and cultures
- Possess good verbal communication skills
- Able to commit to a pre-arranged schedule
Commitment:
Willingness to volunteer at least one 2-hour shift per week for the duration of the Summer Learning Program (June and July). Schedule is dependent on the availability of the volunteer.
