Nature of the Work:
This position requires basic skills and Bureau policy adherence to ensure the safety of the animals, staff, public and the volunteer.
Work involves assisting in-house staff with the care of the kenneled animals, information to visiting citizens and with preparation and participation in Bureau events. Volunteer must be able to act with minimal supervision using independent judgement and discretion in meeting emergency situations. Duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations. General instructions and special assignments are received from departmental volunteer coordinator and staff who evaluate the volunteer’s performance through observation.

Requirements of the Work:
- Must Be At Least 18 Years of Age
- Must Not Have Animal Allergies
- Must Meet the CMPD Volunteer Resources Statement of Eligibility
- Must Follow Animal Control Bureau Policy
- Must Attend theLawEnforcementCenterOrientation With Volunteer Program Liason Officer
- Must Attend an Animal Control Orientation With Bureau Volunteer Coordinator
- Must Dress According To Dress Code To Include CMPD Volunteer Identification Badge
- Must Complete a Timesheet On a Monthly Basis
- Must Submit a Shift Availability Schedule On a Monthly Basis
- Must Have Knowledge of the Safe Handling and General Welfare of the Adoption Kenneled Animals
- Must Have the Ability to Receive and Comprehend Oral and Written Directions
- Must Have the Ability to Deal With the Public in a Courteous, Tactful and Effective Manner
