Mountain Bike Junior Instructor

The Junior Instructor is a member of the Sport Team and provides support in the successful delivery of WinSport’s sport programs and camps through assisting with group supervision and a diverse range of sport and recreational activities for children. The Junior Instructor supports Mountain Bike, Hockey, Ringette, and Sport & Wilderness.
Sport: Sport Camps offer fun, active outdoor experiences where children and youth explore a variety of sports including basketball, gagaball, soccer, volleyball, and field games.
Wilderness: Wilderness Camps immerse children and youth in outdoor experiences that deepen their connection to nature, build practical outdoor awareness, and strengthen social connections through shared exploration and adventure.
Mountain Bike: Mountain Bike Camps coach safe progression through various techniques and over an extensive network of trails focusing on all aspects of mountain biking to develop strong riding fundamentals.
Hockey & Ringette: camps focus on hockey and ringette skill development that will help participants increase confidence and further their lifelong engagement to hockey & ringette, sport and active lifestyles.
Responsibilities
Group Support
- Assist the Instructors with group supervision and management
- Proactively look for opportunities to lead the group
- Demonstrate appropriate camp behaviour, skills and teaching progressions for campers
- Assist with practice sessions, location dependant on the program (on ice, off ice, mountain bike trails, sport development etc.)
- Set up equipment, activities and games
- Support the participants with preparing for the activities, including helping with participant gear
- Provide targeted instruction during drills or games who need it
- Help create a high energy and positive environment for both campers and staff
- Interact with guests, staff, and fellow volunteers in a respectful and supportive manner
Safety Execution
- Maintain a safe environment for all participants by modeling safe behavior
- Attend training sessions, orientations and meetings as required
- Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers and WinSport guests
- Be mindful of all safety hazards/concerns within the work environment and ensure all safety issues are reported to the appropriate individuals
Qualifications
- Must be 13 years of age or older (14 minimum for Mountain Bike, Sport & Wilderness)
- Enjoy working with kids
- Must be able to attend all days of the session and volunteer for 10 or more session days in the season
- Have the ability to work as part of a team with a high level of energy
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated maturity
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn and take direction
- Be able to attend training
- Experience working with children ages 4-12
- Completion of Standard First Aid training is an asset
- Previous summer camp experience is an asset
- Babysitting course and/or camp experience an asset
- Ability to do the specific camp sport (hockey, ringette, mountain bike) and have leadership ability. Sport & Wilderness camps require a willingness to try.
Dates & Times
- Shifts generally 8 hours on weekdays (Summer)
- Must be available for mandatory training from June 22 to 26, 2026.
- Must be available Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, from June 29 to August 28, 2026, for at least 2 of the 9 weeks of summer camps for Sport & Wilderness and Mountain Bike
- Must be available Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, from July 6 to August 28, 2026, for at least 2 of the 9 weeks of summer camps for Hockey. Must be available for week 9 of summer camp, August 24-28.
- Must be available Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, from July 20 to 24 and August 10 to 14, 2026, for Ringette
Physical and Mental Demands
- Shifts generally 8 hours on weekdays (Summer)
- Outdoors and indoors
- Hockey and Ringette Programs – most programs have a minimum of two hours on ice per day
- Interacting with children in a fast-paced environment
- Participating in a wide variety of recreation activities
- Working with children, parents and the public
- Lifting kids, carrying equipment, climbing obstacles
