VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT- AGES 18 AND ABOVE

We do have an opportunity listed below for the Pick up and Deliver role- please ready through the information below before getting in touch.

Our general recruitment is currently closed and will reopen on 2nd January 2026  16th January 2026.   Please check back then for instructions. but please note- we may close recruitment early. 

Due to the high number of applications we receive, you must attend a recruitment event before you are able to apply. Recruitment events will be held quarterly and there you will be able to find out more about volunteering at STH including what the expectations and requirements are of volunteers, the roles available and the benefits of volunteering.

Please note;

  • We do not offer work placements, if you require a work placement e.g. for your college course, this would have to be arranged with the specific department of interest. We cannot enter into a work placement agreement or sign off your competencies etc. for a work placement.
  • If you are under 18 you will need to apply for our Team Impact programme in the autumn, please check back with us nearer the time.

We require a commitment of 3 hours a week for at least 6 months from a volunteer. Please do not apply if you cannot meet this commitment. You may instead wish to explore other volunteer opportunities in Sheffield via https://www.sheffieldvolunteercentre.org.uk/

 

PICK UP AND DELIVER VOLUNTEERING

We need volunteers who can help with providing an important service to help transport patient medications and/or equipment home after being discharged. This helps the patient to go home much faster.

The volunteer must be able to:

  • Have use of their own vehicle
  • Can be available to cover a 2–3-hour shift between the times of 1pm and 7pm depending on your availability. Only Monday to Friday.
  • Enjoy talking to people, have a caring nature and be empathetic.
  • Active listening skills and be responsive to instructions/directions

Other tasks a volunteer can get involved in during the shift will be:

  • Helping with errands such as medication delivery from wards.
  • Talking to patients whilst they wait to go home
  • Helping with refreshments

This volunteer role will be based at the Discharge Lounge at the Northern General Hospital.
