Conservation Science Volunteer

Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and keen to develop your scientific skills?

Marwell’s Conservation team have projects in Tunisia, Kenya, Kazakhstan, and Bhutan, combining practical conservation action with scientific research. For over a decade, we have hosted the programme office of the IUCN SSC Antelope Specialist Group (ASG), a global network of experts dedicated to antelope conservation.

Marwell Wildlife is seeking 1-2 dedicated Conservation Science Volunteers to support our projects.

Do you have -

  • A background or interest in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related subjects.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling data.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to follow protocols and work carefully in a scientific context.
  • Strong IT skills (experience with Excel, GIS, or statistical software would be an advantage)

Are you reliable, organised, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team?

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in conservation, contribute to meaningful scientific work, and make a real impact on the protection of threatened species. Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks which could include supporting IUCN Red List assessments, gathering updates on ex situ populations, and contributing to other conservation science projects as priorities evolve.

What does the role involve?

  • Collating, reviewing, and updating species information to support IUCN Red List assessments, including status, distribution, and population trends.
  • Updating data on ex situ populations of highly threatened species.
  • Conducting literature reviews, gathering reports, and summarising relevant scientific information.
  • Assisting with database management, data entry, and basic analysis.
  • Contributing to the preparation of reports, briefings, or presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting other conservation science projects as needed, providing flexibility to respond to emerging priorities.

This role is an office desk-based role, based in the zoo, working along-side our conservation team.
