Conservation Communication Volunteer

Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and interested in developing your communication skills?

Marwell’s Conservation team has projects in Tunisia, Kenya, Kazakhstan, and Bhutan, combining practical conservation action with scientific research. For over a decade, we have hosted the programme office of the IUCN SSC Antelope Specialist Group (ASG), a global network of experts dedicated to antelope conservation.

Marwell Wildlife and ASG are seeking 1–2 enthusiastic Conservation Communication Volunteers to support the storytelling of conservation outputs.

Do you have -

  • A background or interest in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related subjects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to synthesise technical or scientific information for a variety of audiences in an engaging way.
  • Experience with sourcing and developing content for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Experience with basic design platforms (e.g., Canva) and creating visually appealing content.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and an eye for engaging visuals and storytelling.
  • An interest in wildlife conservation and communicating complex topics in accessible ways.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • The willingness to take initiative and suggest ideas for new content

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in conservation communications, contribute to meaningful storytelling, and help raise awareness of threatened species.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks, primarily supporting ASG’s communications outputs – including the website, newsletter, and social media – and contributing to other conservation communication outputs as priorities evolve.

What does the role involve?

  • Researching antelope species to find interesting facts to share on social media platforms.
  • Sourcing imagery to showcase and tell the story of these antelope.
  • Developing engaging content for ASG’s social media platforms, website and newsletter.
  • Creating visually appealing graphics and materials to support our communication efforts.
  • Assisting in updating and maintaining the ASG website content to keep it fresh and engaging, including updating species profiles, which includes researching (sourcing and citing information correctly), writing, and editing copy to ensure accuracy and readability
  • Adapting content for different audiences, including public, partners, or academic stakeholders.

This role is an office desk-based role, based in the zoo, working along-side our conservation team.
