VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

Job Title:                     Ruth’s Closet Associate

Reports To:                 Ruth’s Closet Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager

Location:                     Ruth’s Closet, 9131 Reisterstown Rd, Owings Mills, MD 21117

Weekly Hours:           3-4

 

Position Summary

The Ruth’s Closet Associate volunteers at Ruth’s Closet, a social enterprise of House of Ruth Maryland, located in Owings Mills. Ruth’s Closet is an upscale resale boutique selling donated high quality women’s clothing, shoes and accessories at affordable prices. All proceeds fund programs and services benefitting victims of intimate partner violence and their children at House of Ruth Maryland.

 

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Must have high ethical standards and successfully complete a background check
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Must be reliable, including have own transportation
  • Must be able to follow direction and work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Must be outgoing and capable of engaging effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to understand intimate partner violence and how it affects the client population

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Commit to weekly  3-4-hour shifts during store hours
    RC store hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM – 5 PM
  • Greet, assist, and make customers feel welcomed
  • Engage customers by inviting them to sign up for the Ruth’s Closet e-mail list, providing information about Ruth’s Closet, the House of Ruth Maryland and donation guidelines
  • Empty dressing rooms and return garments and other items to the sales floor
  • Straighten merchandise on the sales floor and fill in displays as items are sold
  • Prepare merchandise for the sales floor by hanging, tagging, steaming, and/or polishing clothing, shoes and accessories for sale
  • Assist with transporting items between Ruth’s Closet and the warehouse in Owings Mills
  • Attend and participate in volunteer meetings
