Welcome to The Royal Children’s Hospital Volunteer Service

The RCH Volunteer Service, which is facilitated by the RCH Family Services team, aims to improve the hospital experience for our patients, families, carers and friends by providing family-centred services. 

Volunteers play a vital role throughout the RCH, providing families with respite, entertaining patients and their siblings and assisting staff with a range of other duties.

What do our volunteers do? 

All RCH volunteer roles are classified as “Family Support”, as every task that is completed by a volunteer is supporting our patients and families in some way.

RCH volunteers can be found in the following locations (just to name a few):

• Inpatient wards
• The Emergency Department
• Clinics
• Main Street Reception
• Day of Surgery
• The Family Hub/Book Bunker/BeanBag Cinema

What is the process of becoming an RCH Volunteer

Step 1:  Complete an online registration form (using the “Fill In Application” button -  top right hand side of this page)

Step 2:  RECRUITMENT

• Your application will be assessed by the RCH Family Services Team
• If successful you will be invited to attend an online interview (during business hours)
• After successful interviews the RCH Family Services Team will then conduct 2 reference checks

Step 3:  TRAINING

• After successful reference checks, you will then be asked to complete a suite of online training modules
• Once modules are completed you will be asked to book in to attend an ON SITE 3-4 hour training session (during business hours)

Step 4: ONBOARDING

• Once all training is completed, you will be asked to provide us with your relevant credentials (Police Check, Working With Children Check, Vaccination Evidence)
• You will then be booked in for a Buddy Shift (to work with another volunteer to “shadow” them in their role)
• You will then be placed on the roster and ready to volunteer and have fun!
