About the Event
The Gramping Family Camping Adventure is a free, two-day, one-night event designed for families where grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, or other caregivers help raise a child or youth. Families will enjoy camping, games, nature activities, and time together outdoors.
Your Role as a Volunteer
As a Gramping Adventure Crew Volunteer, you’ll support the event by helping families feel welcome, safe, and included. You’ll assist with setup, activities, meals, and clean-up, helping ensure every camper has a fun and accessible experience.
Volunteer Eligibility
- Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the event.
- This age requirement ensures compliance with background check procedures and California Public Resources Code Section 5163, which governs safety in public recreation settings involving children.
Volunteer Tasks
- Welcome families and guide them through check-in.
- Help set up tents, chairs, and campsite areas if requested.
- Support family-friendly games, crafts, and nature walks.
- Assist with meal areas and s’mores distribution.
- Provide information and answer questions with a friendly attitude.
- Help with service projects and park clean-up on Day 2.
- Be a positive, calm presence for families and children.
Training and support are provided; no camping experience is needed!

Saturday, May 30
- Morning Set-Up Crew | 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- Camper Welcome & Campsite Help | 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM
- Games & Crafts Crew | 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM
- Evening Campfire & Dance Support | 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Sunday, May 30
- Breakfast & Evaluation Support | 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM
- Service Project & Group Photo Crew | 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
- Campsite Breakdown & Final Cleanup | 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Volunteers may sign up for one or more shifts.
Camping Option for Volunteers
A limited number of volunteers may camp overnight at Dos Picos.
To qualify, volunteers must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Commit to at least 4 total shifts (2 each day)
- Help with key times (like setup, campfire, or clean-up)
- Bring their own camping supplies
- Complete a background check
Spaces are limited and will be confirmed after shift commitments are received.
What You Need
- Friendly, patient attitude
- Comfortable working outside and moving around
- Willingness to follow directions and work with staff and other volunteers
- Ability to stand, walk, or lift up to 20 pounds (reasonable accommodations available)
Background Check
All volunteers must complete a criminal history background check before the event. Once you're accepted, we will help you complete it.
