Programmatic - Mandarin Stories and Songs Program Facilitator

Brief Summary of Activity: Provide reading to children in Mandarin.

How You Will Make a Difference:

Families will benefit from hearing stories read in Mandarin.

You can present books in Mandarin to a new/recurring audience each time.

Families who want to hear stories in their native language or who want to learn another language will benefit from attending your program.

Typical Day or Task:  Sign in, pick up your volunteer lanyard, and reading to children sign.

Before the reading, you will have chosen picture books to read in Mandarin.  This might include ordering books from other Libraries.  Children may also offer picture books in Mandarin for you to read.

Set up your sign in the picture book area and ask Staff to announce your program.

In addition to reading, you are welcome to add songs and rhymes that the children will enjoy.

Benefits:  Families who are looking for a reading program in another language will benefit from your volunteering!

In addition, you can share a different culture with your audience.

Commitment or Schedule:  Please be willing to commit to at least six months of volunteering.

It is best if you can read on a regular schedule so that your audience will know when to expect you.
