Crocus Group Activities Volunteer
Help bereaved children and young people build resilience, confidence, and connection.
Crocus Group is a specialist bereavement support service for children and young people across the Highlands. Rather than providing traditional counselling, Crocus offers safe, supportive group programmes where young people can share experiences, make memories, develop friendships, and explore healthy ways to cope with grief and loss.
As an Activities Volunteer, you'll help facilitate engaging group sessions that encourage young people to express themselves, build resilience, and feel less alone in their bereavement journey. Your support can make a lasting difference during a challenging time in a young person's life.
What you'll do:
- Support group activities and discussions for bereaved children and young people
- Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
- Encourage participation and positive engagement
- Assist young people to explore healthy ways of managing difficult feelings
- Help facilitate opportunities for connection, reflection, and remembrance
We're looking for volunteers who:
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Can relate well to children and young people
- Are compassionate, patient, and reliable
- Can remain calm and supportive when working alongside people experiencing distress
- Are committed to providing continuity and consistency for the young people attending the groups
A full background check will be required before commencing the role, and comprehensive training and support will be provided.
Volunteer Commitment To provide stability for the children and young people who attend, we ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of six months, with many choosing to stay longer as long as the role remains mutually rewarding.
Volunteers are expected to:
- Attend regular group programmes held on weekday evenings during school term time
- Support programmes that run for a set block of weeks
- Attend at least one "Days to Remember" session each year, with six sessions taking place annually
Why volunteer with Crocus?
- Make a meaningful difference in the lives of bereaved children and young people
- Gain valuable skills and experience
- Be part of a supportive and dedicated team
- Help young people build confidence, resilience, and lasting memories
- Contribute to a service that provides hope, understanding, and connection when it's needed most
Join the Crocus team and help young people navigate grief with compassion, support, and understanding. 💜
