Duke of Edinburgh - Kitchen Porter (min age 18)
In response to a growing demand for Duke of Edinburgh opportunities, we are trialling a role for those aged 14+ to support our Kitchen team.
The role will be 1 hour per week (between 4pm and 5pm) for 12 weeks. We would welcome individuals or pairs of volunteers. Food hygiene awareness and induction must first be completed.
The kitchen is a real hub of the Highland Hospice and provides freshly prepared meals for patients and customers of our “By the River” café. Volunteers provide an invaluable “extra pair of hands” to support the cooks and ensure the kitchen is kept clean and clear of clutter. Kitchen volunteers do not do any cooking.
Main responsibilities / activities:
- Put dirty dishes through the dishwasher
- To put clean dishes back in their proper place
- Assist with general tidying up in the kitchen
- Wash up any dirty pots/pans
- Sweep up the kitchen
- Empty the bins
- If you feel comfortable doing this, you may want to assist the cook in setting up the dinner trays in the In Patient Unit
- You could do this role by yourself or with a friend
