Nature: practical activities - Adder survey volunteer training

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to train to complete surveys of the iconic reptile - the adder, which is now vulnerable to extinction in England. Dates and locations are:

  • Slaley Forest -19 March
  • West Moor Plantation, South Bedburn - 20 March
  • Park bank, Blanchland - 26 March

Participants will learn how to survey for adders and other reptiles and amphibians in the North Pennines. Training will follow on from the adder survey training webinar, covering safety, animal identification and survey techniques. 

Walking distances – potential for walking over rough terrain, slopes, heathland & bog.

Required clothing / equipment: Sturdy boots, long trousers, outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather, snacks and drinks. Fully charged mobile phone.

No toilets / amenities are present on the site. Nearest options will be made known at the start of the session during the H&S briefing.
