Nature: practical activities - Adder survey volunteer training
We are looking for new enthusiastic volunteers to train to complete surveys of the iconic reptile, the adder, which is now vulnerable to extinction in England. Dates and locations are:
- Longburnford Quarry Nature Reserve - 25 June and 16 July

Cuthberts Moor - 26 June and 17 July
Aimed at people who haven’t joined on an adder survey training session previously, you will learn how to survey for adders and other reptiles and amphibians in the North Pennines. Training will cover survey techniques, animal identification, adder ecology and safety.
Walking distances – potential for walking over rough terrain, slopes, heathland & bog.
Required clothing / equipment: Sturdy boots, long trousers, outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather, snacks and drinks. Fully charged mobile phone.
No toilets / amenities are present on the site. Nearest options will be made known at the start of the session during the H&S briefing.
