Nature: practical activities - Monitoring of woodland and scrub planting (Tees-Swale)

Woodland/Scrub monitoring

We are looking for volunteers to undertake surveys of woodland and scrub planting sites which have been planted by the Tees-Swale:Naturally connected programme over the last 5 years.

We aim to use the data collected to evaluate the success of our tree planting sites and to target any future management or replanting that may need to be undertaken.

We are offering a training session, on May 27 where we will familiarise you with the monitoring methods. providing any training needed to undertake these surveys and assign people their sites to survey.

Time-scales: Surveys will be undertaken from May – September.

Methodology: Volunteers will be assigned sites and asked to visit once between May-September. Recording the establishment rate of the new planting and identifying any issues or necessary interventions needed at the site.

We will attempt to pair people up for surveys. If people are comfortable to undertake surveys on their own they must follow our lone-working protocol which can be found in the volunteer handbook.
