NVADG - North Valley Animal Disaster Group

This training will introduce volunteers to the role of animal decontamination during disaster response, with a focus on both dogs and large animals. With the potential for flooding associated with this year’s El Niño weather pattern, volunteers will learn why decontamination may be necessary when animals are exposed to contaminated floodwater, mud, debris, or other environmental hazards.

The training will cover why and when animals may require decontamination, what volunteers can expect during a decontamination operation, and how NVADG may establish and operate decontamination areas for small and large animals. We will walk through anticipated procedures, volunteer roles, animal handling considerations, necessary equipment and PPE, and the general flow of animals through the decontamination process.

This training is intended to familiarize volunteers with the process before an incident occurs, helping everyone better understand their responsibilities and how animal decontamination may fit into a larger sheltering or evacuation response.
