Volunteer Opportunity: Sheldon M. Chumir Centre – Urgent Care Support Volunteer

About the Role
- Help patients, families, and visitors feel welcome in Urgent Care
- Guide patients to rooms or testing areas
- Offer comfort items (blankets, drinks) when asked by staff
- Keep waiting areas and rooms tidy and organized
- Support Urgent Care staff with small tasks as needed
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients and visitors; provide snacks, water, or warm blankets if directed
- Escort or direct patients to assigned rooms
- Restock supplies and equipment when needed
- Wipe down chairs, recliners, and work areas
- Provide friendly conversation to help patients feel at ease
- Support Clothing Program and Food Pantry organization
- Always follow safety rules and protect patient privacy
Ideal Volunteer
- Mature mindset and enjoys helping people - Above the age of 18
- Friendly, polite, and respectful
- Works well with others and follows directions
- Calm and composed in a busy area
- Dependable and on time
- Interested in learning about health care (great for pre-med or future health care students)
- Able to commit to a regular weekly shift
Training and Support
- Attend AHS Volunteer Orientation
- Complete one to two shadow shifts with an experienced volunteer
- Ongoing guidance from the Urgent Care Coordinator
Shift Availability
Monday to Sunday:
- 8:00 am – 11:00 am
- 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
- 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
- 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- 8 pm - 11 pm
Commitment
- Minimum 12 volunteer hours per month
- Minimum 1 year commitment - With a successful volunteer program, a professional reference if earned will be provided.
