GOSH Guide

 

Summary

The main purpose of this post is to establish a friendly, helpful and effective welcome to patients and visitors to GOSH and to provide a general guiding and wayfinding service. Under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator and supported by your team leader, you will ensure that all visitors to the hospital are met with a welcoming face and given clear directions and understanding of where their appointments are, walking with them to their destination, as far as possible.

 

Time Commitment:

Minimum of 4 hours per week for 6 months. The service runs from 8am till 6pm Monday to Friday

Uniform:

  • Volunteer polo-shirt or tabard to worn at all times whilst on Trust premises
  • Name badge
  • ID security badge
  • Comfortable and respectable clothes and shoes
  • Minimal jewellery and makeup

  

 Intended Impact of role

  • Reduction of anxiety for patients and parents entering hospital
  • Saving clinical staff time by ensuring patients get to their intended appointments on time
  • Improved patient/visitor flow
  • Supporting reception and security staff teams

 

Specific tasks for this role:

  • Acting as a contact point, welcoming people in main reception
  • Providing clear and accurate information to help people find their way around the hospital
  • Escorting enquirers to specific areas as appropriate
  • Inviting visitors to observe Trust Infection Control procedures
  • Providing information on local amenities, such as public transport cafes, shops etc.
  • Answering general enquiries about the hospital and its services
  • Referring enquirers to appropriate members of staff where further help is required
  • Ensuring people with disabilities are attended to appropriately
