Reporting to the Youth Program Coordinator, the Little Lazer Helper volunteer will also work closely with the Youth Sport Instructors to provide supervision and guidance to children 2 to 8 years old.
This position would appeal to someone who thrives on client-first service and working with young children with different abilities. This position would require the candidate to be physically fit as you will be assisting our staff help little ones develop their fundamental gross motor skills through fun games and age appropriate skill progressions
There are weekday or weekend shifts available in this role.
Responsibilities & Training |
- The Youth Program Coordinator at the start of each session provides orientation training, or if you start mid-session, you will receive training during your volunteer shift.
- Volunteer role is to assist the Youth Sport Instructors manage the classes and ensure participants have a fun and safe time while in the program.
- Identify your self to the participants and parents that you are a Volunteer in this role to help out with the program.
- While the activities are going on, provide positive feedback to the participants, even if they aren’t successful i.e. “you almost got it, try again!”, or “Nice try!”, give high fives etc.
- Don’t be afraid to be silly, talk in loud and soft voices, use exaggerated body movements. The kids will respond to this better than dryly explaining the activities.
- At the end of the class, tell them as a group how well they did and how much fun you had with them!
- If there are any serious behaviour issues, bring it to the Youth Sport Instructor, but be prepared as you might need to repeat what occurred to Youth Program Coordinator and the parents.
- Don’t be surprised if some of the kids are shy at first or don’t engage or listen right away. Volunteers can try some one on one coaching to see if the child is more comfortable with that approach, while the Youth Sport Instructors supervise the group. Continue to be positive and encouraging
