3. Induction & Training - Face to Face Volunteer Induction

Cahoots Volunteer Induction

The Cahoots Volunteer Induction is a mandatory face-to-face session for all new volunteers and the final step in the volunteer onboarding process. Held at our Bayswater office, this interactive session is designed to prepare volunteers for their role by providing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to safely support participants across Cahoots camps and programs.

The induction is also a great opportunity to meet other volunteers, learn more about the Cahoots community, and ask questions before beginning your volunteering journey.

How it Works

Attendance at a Cahoots Volunteer Induction is compulsory before volunteering on any Cahoots program or camp.

Induction sessions are facilitated by the workforce team and are held regularly at our Bayswater office. For volunteers who are unable to attend in person, an online option may be available where required.

Volunteers are required to complete all online training modules prior to attending the induction session, as the induction builds on the information covered within these modules and provides practical examples and discussion opportunities.

What You'll Learn

During the induction, volunteers will gain an understanding of:

  • Cahoots' vision, values, and culture
  • Volunteer expectations and responsibilities
  • Tips for being an effective and supportive volunteer
  • Professional boundaries and appropriate conduct
  • Duty of care and participant safety
  • Safeguarding and child-safe practices
  • Restrictive practices and participant rights
  • Supporting participants with higher support needs
  • Communication and behaviour support strategies
  • Progress note writing and documentation requirements

What to Bring

  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Any questions you may have about volunteering at Cahoots
  • A device for taking notes (optional)
