Volunteer Opportunities


Wayfinders meet and greet visitors and patients. They provide information, directions and escort visitors and patients to various areas throughout the hospital. 

Shifts are 3 hours in length from 7am-7pm Monday through Friday and 10am-4pm on weekends.

Commitment is one 3-hour shift per week, for a minimum of 9 months and 100 hours.

Auxiliary - Gift Shop

Customer service representative: sales to the public, patients and staff.  Buying and re-stocking merchandise, cleans and tidies shelves.  Previous cash experience is an asset.

Auxiliary - Lottery Booth

Located in the centre of Royal Columbian Hospital, the Lotto Booth sells tickets to raise funds to purchase new equipment for the hospital.

Training provided through BC Lottery Corporation.

Our ideal applicant is mature and has experience in customer service.

Shifts are one 4 hour shift per week. Currently available: Monday mornings, Monday through Thursday afternoons. 

Covid-19 safety protocols are in place.

Auxiliary - New To You Thrift Store

The New to You thrift shop is on 706 Sixth Avenue, near the New Westminster Public Library. Volunteers sort, price and display donated used goods. Clean and tidy shelves while providing great customer service. All proceeds go to the purchase of new equipment for Royal Columbian hospital.

Our ideal applicant is mature with cash and customer service experience.

Commitment is one 4-hour shift per week.

Covid-19 safety protocols are in place.



Pacific Open Heart Association

Provides support and encouragement to open heart surgery patients.  *Note:  Volunteers must have undergone open heart surgery to qualify.

Paws 'n Whiskers

Volunteers and their dogs visit patients who have requested this service.  *Note:  Pets must be screened by BC Pets and Friends or St. John Therapy Dog prior to placement, and have applicable vaccinations.
