One of the Midwest’s most popular and highly regarded outdoor celebrations of the arts will return to the Capitol Square on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12, 2026, as MMoCA presents the 68th annual Art Fair on the Square.
With its mix of entertainment and outdoor dining, as well as over 400 artists exhibiting paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, jewelry, handmade clothing and accessories, and fine craft, the fair draws nearly 200,000 visitors to Madison’s Capitol Square.
To provide an amazing experience to the public, MMoCA relies on volunteers to assist with every aspect of the event – from greeting guests to selling beverages. Volunteering at Art Fair on the Square allows volunteers to meet new people, learn new skills, and connect with the arts on a deeper level.
Gardening
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
May 20–October 23, 2026 • 9–11 AM
Skills required: none
MMoCA is seeking volunteers to care for our beautiful Rooftop Sculpture Garden during the summer. No formal gardening experience is required, just a willingness to learn and get your hands in the soil!
Duties include weeding, watering, occasional pruning and deadheading, applying a non-toxic salt and vinegar weed killer between rooftop paving stones, and light tidying of the rooftop space. Volunteers should be comfortable working outdoors and able to bend, lift, and carry light gardening supplies, including a hose.
This is a great opportunity to support a vibrant downtown space while learning about plants in a quiet environment with fresh air. Tools, gloves, and training are provided. Join our team and make a visible impact in the heart of Madison!
When you sign up to be a volunteer at MMoCA, you are signing up for a one-year commitment. We ask that you do your best to work 10 volunteer hours a year. Volunteers who work 10 hours each year will be invited to renew their commitment; those who do not should reach out to MMoCA’s Volunteer Coordinator to discuss other opportunities to get involved with the Museum. Volunteers for Art Fair on the Square are asked to work at least one shift at Art Fair each year to maintain their volunteer profile.
