Stroke/Geriatric Patient Visitor (18 years old +)
Volunteer Responsibilities:
As an integral part of the Unit 52 team, Volunteers will:
- Check in with Unit Clerk or Charge Nurse upon arrival on unit
- Visit with lonely or restless patients. Games and activities can be found at the Volunteer Office Front Desk.
- Please leave opened games, cards, etc. with the patient. Do not return to activity box.
- Assist staff in preparing patients for meals in rooms
- Be familiar with meal ordering sheet and check with nursing staff if patient asks for anything not on meal tray or if patient is asking for more
- Be familiar with meal terms: (See attached for definitions)
- opening creamers, lids and other meal related items.
- Tidy nourishment centre, Wipe out the microwave.
- Collect glasses, plates, cups from other counters in the room to be washed and sanitized.
- Attend to plants in patient rooms, ei watering, dead-heading, etc.
- Provide patients with water (Check for Fluid/Ice Water Restrictions with Charge Nurse)
- Hand out Kleenex boxes to those patients who need them.
- Ensure there are always wheelchairs available.
- Always contact Volunteer Services and Unit when Absent.
