Patient Visitor Unit 41/42
Volunteer Responsibilities:
As an integral part of the surgical team, Volunteers will:
- Check in with Unit Clerk or Charge Nurse upon arrival on unit
- Visit with lonely and/or restless patients.
- Games and activities can be found in the Volunteer Services office for patients and volunteers to do together. Anything that the patient opens, they get to keep.
- Ensure patients have their snacks at delivered after the meal tray is collected. Compare bracelet with name on the snack.
- Assist staff in preparing patients for meals (ie. adjusting bed position)
- Tidy nourishment centre
- Unit 42: Encouraging independent ERSA patients to walk at night around the unit only.
- Unit 42: Assisting Health Care Aids with daily patient weights at 6:00 pm.
- Record patient food intake at end of meal, as requested.
- Stock patient rooms with rubber gloves and face towels. Replace empty glove boxes, do not refill.
- Fill or freshen patient water
- Splitting perforated stickers on rolls
- Always contact Volunteer Services and Unit when absent.
