There is not a physical BC SPCA location in 100 Mile House. Applications are only open for foster homes within the 100 Mile House area. Applicants will need to be able to travel to and from the Centre in Williams Lake should they foster.

Food Bank Distribution Assistant




Food Bank Distribution Assistant. If you like helping your community and care about animals, but prefer to work behind the scenes, this role is a great fit. We need volunteers to help plan and prepare our pet food supplies for our community outreach food bank. Your help will make sure pet owners in your community have safe and reliable access to food for their animals. Responsibilities • Repackage and label food for distribution • Track food supplies going out and prepare for transport • Maintain the cleanliness of the food area • Ensure that any damaged or expired pet food is removed • Coordinate with SPCA staff to understand weekly needs and priorities • Adhere to all BC SPCA policies Requirements & Training • Must be in philosophical harmony with our mission, vision, values, and strategic directions • Ideally able to comfortably lift/move bags of pet food weighing up to 50 pounds • Clear & confident communicator • Knowledge of local BC SPCA initiatives/events • Works well independently and with a team • Reliable, committed, and task-oriented • Time management skills Volunteering Conditions • Lifting and Moving: Volunteers may need to lift or move supplies and equipment, which requires physical strength and stamina. *Speak to us about any modifications needed. • Safety Protocols: Volunteers must adhere to safety protocols to protect themselves and the animals. This includes using personal protective equipment (PPE) where necessary. • Potential Hazards: Be aware of potential hazards such as sharp containers. Youth Volunteers • Youth under 12 years of age are not able to volunteer. • Youth between the ages of 12-15 o Can volunteer only when accompanied and supervised by a parent/guardian (19+ years old) * • Youth between the ages of 16-18 o Can volunteer with the consent of their guardians* • Youth volunteering for school requirements: o depending upon the program requirements and amount of students submitting applications for this purpose, not all centres will be able to accommodate these requests. o For more information before submitting an application, contact volunteers@spca.bc.ca to inquire. Include the location and details of your school program. Time Commitment • Approximately 1 hour of online training is required for entry into the volunteer program. • Attendance to an in-centre orientation and/or tour may be required before starting to volunteer. • We request a minimum commitment of 6 months with one shift per week.
