SFC Virginia

SFC Virginia is a foster-focused, volunteer-powered organization, which means that the vast majority of our animals are kept in foster homes until they are adopted, and we need help at every level! Whether you can give two hours a month or want to volunteer every weekend, love working from home/remotely, want to foster a pet in need in your own home, or enjoy the hands-on work at our headquarters building with intake, baths, and walks, there's something for everyone to do!

FOSTERING SAVES LIVES

We do not maintain a large physical facility and rely heavily on our foster parents and volunteers to provide socialization and care while the animals wait for a forever home. Fostering a dog or cat removes them from the often stressful shelter environment, frees up a kennel in county shelters that are still euthanizing for space, and allows the pet to live in the comfort of a home until a new family can be found. Foster parents are also integral to the adoption process and act as adoption ambassadors to help find their foster pet a home, bringing them to adoption events, setting up meet and greets, and networking with members of your community to find a match.

We need foster families for:

  • Adult Dogs

  • Puppies

  • Adult Cats

  • Kittens

  • Nursing Moms (Dogs and Cats) with babies

  • Medical cases

Can't foster but want to help? We are always looking for volunteers at our HQ, adoption events, remotely, and more!

Volunteers at events and HQ must be 18+ to directly interact with animals, or 16 with a parent/guardian present. Families with children under the age of 18 are welcome to help with other tasks, and are always welcome to be part of our Foster program.

Mission Statement

SFC Virginia is a foster-focused animal rescue group in Fredericksburg, VA. Founded in July 2019 with the goal of saving dogs and cats from rural and otherwise underserved shelters in the state, we strive to provide quality medical care including vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries, and to find permanent adoptive homes in our area. We work to make a positive contribution to the overall live release rate in Virginia and toward No-Kill Nation 2025.
