Volunteer at UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum


What We're Looking For:

The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum is seeking dedicated volunteers to work at our Front Desk and Family Day.

Our ideal candidate is available for two to four 3-hour shifts per month on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, or Sundays.

Volunteer Opportunities

Front Desk

Front desk volunteers are our public facing ambassadors during our open hours. It's a rewarding role in which you get to have meaningful conversations with visitors about art, nature, and a love of Austin. This position is ideal for people seeking regular volunteer work in a calm environment with a strong sense of community!

Responsibilities: 

  • Make admission and gift shop sales
  • Inform visitors of the current exhibitions and collection
  • Engage with visitors to provide a personable and welcoming experience
  • Maintain a tidy Gallery and Gift Shop space
  • Monitor the Gallery to ensure all Museum policies are followed
  • Answer phone calls and general questions
  • Must be comfortable using an iPad-style point of sale system and handling cash

Family Programs

The UMLAUF serves the local arts scene in part by hosting special events for people of all ages including Family Day, StrawFest, and summer camp. Volunteers for Family Programs are often excited by high energy days and feel comfortable engaging with diverse audiences. Experience with children not required.

Responsibilities: Tasks will vary depending on the program’s needs. Here are some common tasks:

  • Help with set up and break down
  • Assist kids with crafts
  • Hand out sculpture searches
  • Check in guests
  • Track attendance
  • Inform visitors of the program schedule, exhibitions, and collection
  • Engage with visitors to provide a personable and welcoming experience
  • Maintain a tidy Museum and Garden
  • Monitor the Gallery to ensure all Museum policies are followed
  • Answer phone calls and general questions
  • You may be asked to use an iPad-style point of sale system and handle cash
