About the Role
Do you enjoy reading and engaging in meaningful conversations? Join us as a Volunteer Newspaper Reader at Jewish Care Victoria and bring the daily news to life for residents with low vision.
As a Volunteer Newspaper Reader, you will have the rewarding opportunity to read newspapers, magazines, or other print materials to residents who may struggle with vision impairments. Your presence will not only keep them informed but also provide companionship and encourage discussion on current events.
Responsibilities
- Reading newspapers, magazines, or other materials aloud to residents.
- Engaging in discussions about news topics, encouraging conversation and social connection.
- Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere during reading sessions.
- Being patient and attentive to the needs of residents with low vision.
Working Hours
One-two hours per week.
Qualifications/Skills Required
- Clear and engaging reading voice.
- Patience and a warm, friendly demeanor.
- Interest in current events and willingness to encourage discussion.
- Ability to interact with elderly residents in a respectful and compassionate manner.
