About the Role

Do you enjoy walking and engaging with others? Become a Volunteer Walking Companion at Jewish Care Victoria and help our residents stay active while enjoying fresh air and friendly conversation.

As a Volunteer Walking Companion, you will provide support to elderly residents during short walks within the facility or outdoor areas. Your role will help promote mobility, well-being, and social connection, while ensuring residents feel safe and comfortable.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany residents on short walks, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Engage in friendly conversations and provide companionship during walks.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a secure walking environment.
  • Quickly notify staff if a resident experiences any difficulty or if any concerns arise during the walk.
  • Encourage and support residents in maintaining mobility and enjoying their time outdoors.

Working Hours

One-two hours per week.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • A warm and friendly demeanor with good communication skills.
  • Patience and attentiveness to residents’ needs.
  • A responsible approach to following safety guidelines.
  • Ability to quickly report any concerns or incidents to staff.
