As a Tourism Volunteer, you will be one of the friendly faces welcoming visitors to our vibrant city. Ipswich attracts more than 2 million visitors each year, offering a diverse range of experiences, from scenic nature-based adventures and family-friendly attractions to rich heritage experiences, thriving arts and culture, and iconic events and festivals.

Representing our city with pride, tourism volunteers operate in the Visitor Information Centre or at pop-up information points at major events, festivals and high-traffic locations. Their local knowledge, personalised recommendations and valuable insights encourage guests to stay longer, explore more deeply, spend more throughout the region, and return for future visits. This rewarding opportunity provides valuable experience in customer service, communication, and community engagement, while contributing to the economic success and positive reputation of Ipswich. Tourism volunteers have the chance to connect with people from all walks of life, create memorable visitor experiences, and showcase the very best our city has to offer.

Tourism Volunteers play an important role supporting delivery of visitor services in the city. Roles and tasks can include;

•  Assisting with visitor information centre operations (maintain and replenish promotional materials and resources, retail sales and merchandising)

• Providing exceptional customer service (assisting with phone, email and face-to-face enquiries, accompanying tour groups, event pop-ups)

• Helping visitors with information, enquiries and directions (basic site orientation, recommendations of activities, website links, accommodation, experiences and sites to visit)

• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the local tourism industry attractions, operators, and visitor experiences (familiarisation activities, team meetings, tourism-related events)
