The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities.
Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents
Activities include, but are not limited to: Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings ministerial visits.
Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to Home Care clients who have been assessed as needing support with nutrition and meal assistance. Meals are picked up over the lunch hour from the Health Care Center and delivered to clients in their homes. Delivery time varies (approximately 15 minutes), depending on the number of clients who need meals.
As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to develop and enhance communication, learn new job skills & obtain a work routine. In this position you will become more involved and have the change to give back to the community.

Animals have been found to benefit people socially, psychologically, and physiologically. The goals of pet visitation programs are to provide opportunities for patients to reach and maintain their optimal level of physical and mental functioning; to maintain or re-establish interests, social contacts and dignity, to alleviate anxiety and redirect attention from their own condition and try to provide an outlet for emotion; and to provide structured, meaningful daily activity.
All dogs are to be certified and temperament tested by a Certified Pet Dog Trainer or by St. John’s Ambulance. They will be placed in areas according to their certification level.
Vaccinations are to be up to date prior to first animal visit o Handlers must complete all required SaskHA Registered Volunteer processes

Youth volunteers provide intergenerational contact between youth and the elderly. The program supports ongoing personal development of youth volunteers as they learn to become comfortable and responsible for their volunteer duties in a long term care setting. it is an opportunity to allow youth to develop an interest in the health care profession while assisting the long term care employees and to experience first hand the different health care roles for the future consideration.

Activities include, but are not limited to:
Playing games, puzzles, reading, nail painting, cards, crafts and visiting, letter writing, painting, special interests, helping residents with computers/ i-pads, baking
