Crayfish Control 2025

Crayfish Control 2025

For the last ten years we have been trialing and learning about ways to try and control invasive signal crayfish in Exmoor's Rivers.    This year our activities continue in two areas, Dunster and Withypool.  In these locations we will be conducting trapping based experiments and also studying the River Avill's eel population to see if they are abundant enough to have a predatory effect on the crayfish, and if their restocking can help to promote eel conservation as well as mitigate the negative effects of invasive crayfish.

To help with this we are looking for volunteers to join our existing group. The timings are: -

Monday afternoon at Withypool 2pm to 4.30pm

Tuesday Dunster Area 09.30 to 1.30pm

Volunteers are welcome to attend one or both of the sites every week, or less frequently. You need to be moderately fit and able to climb in and out of rivers. Taster/training session days will be announced shortly.
