Day Hospice Escort Volunteer
Role Summary: The Day Hospice at St Joseph’s Hospice gives people with a life-limiting condition the opportunity to spend an enjoyable, lively day with others in a similar condition, in a friendly and caring environment. We are seeking a volunteer to help patients who need assistance entering and exiting the ambulance using different mobility aids such as wheelchairs.
Key tasks: Under the supervision of the Day Services Manager, Staff Nurse, Health Care Assistant, and Domestic Staff:
- Meet the driver and patients in the Day Hospice.
- Assist in getting patients into the ambulance
- Ensure seatbelts are worn at all times (unless the patient has a seat belt exemption from their GP).
- Assist the patient into their home if they are on wheelchairs/walking aides.
Time requirement:
- The day hospice requires 2 volunteer escorts: One for Tuesdays, and one for Wednesdays.
- We need the escort to join us at 2:30pm and go out to bring our patients home from Day Hospice. You will be back to the hospice around 4:30pm.
- Commit to a minimum of 6 months.
Skills and qualities required:
- A friendly and caring personality.
- Ability to talk and engage with people.
- Dependable and reliable.
