Art Lead Volunteer- Neuro Support Group

Role description
The Neurological Support Group (NSG) exists to provide a space for people with progressive Neurological Conditions such as MS, MND, PSP and advanced Parkinson’s where they can receive support, socialise and access Complementary Therapies to address their symptoms.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about art to work with the patients and carers at the NSG to introduce them to drawing, painting and other crafts, or to work with individuals with an existing interest on their own projects and/or enhancing their skills.
Key tasks include:
- To plan and coordinate appropriate projects that patients are able to complete at home
- To work independently with individuals and be able to support them with techniques, ideas etc.
Time requirement:
The NSG runs from 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on a Monday. A time requirement of 1-2 hours (preferably from around 11.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m.) on an ongoing weekly basis.
Skills and qualities required:
- A caring, imaginative and creative person with a passion for art
- A knowledge of drawing/painting/craft techniques
- The flexibility to work with hospice staff and other volunteers
- To be comfortable and confident working independently
- To be able to work sensitively and empathically with a diverse range of people
- An understanding of St Joseph’s Mission and Core values
Useful skills to have:
- A background in teaching or facilitating groups
